Front Row Challenge/Ultimate Challenge “Best of Both Worlds” Ticket Renewals Kick Off February 7!

OSKALOOSA, IA (2/1/12) by DarinShort.com. News of this year’s format changes to both the 17th Annual Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge® (August 6th) and 11th Annual Casey’s General Stores Ultimate Challenge™ (August 7th) presented by Searsboro Telephone Company have resulted in record ticket inquiries to the Front Row Challenge Ent. LLC office.

And on Tuesday, February 7th existing ticket holders can renew their requests to both of these blockbuster events by contacting the Front Row Challenge Ent. LLC office at 515-957-0020. The office is open weekly from 10AM-4PM (Central time) on Tuesday through Thursday.

For those race fans wishing to purchase tickets to the 2012 event that didn’t have tickets in 2011, remaining ticket sales will officially open on Tuesday, March 13th.

Even with the announced format changes, there are no increases in ticket pricing.

Tickets to each event are reserved, and are $25 for adults (ages 13 and up). Ages 12 and under is $15 per event. The wildly popular “Infield Party Pass” is sold in advance for $20 for adults and just $5 for kids. The day of each event you can purchase an Infield Party Pass for $25.

In case you missed out on the recent announcement of the format changes, here’s what’s on tap for this year’s must-see events, held during the Cox Design and Metal Fabrication Inc. Southern Iowa Sprintweek:

Monday, August 6th – 17th Annual Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge (FRC) featuring a complete racing program for the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series competing for $5,000 to win – or $50,000 to win from the back! And for the first time, the Monday program will also feature a preliminary night for Tuesday’s Ultimate Challenge for non-winged Sprint Cars – so race fans will get to see the best of both worlds of 410 Sprint Car divisions for the price of one! The top two finishers of the non-winged feature will lock into the Tuesday night Ultimate Challenge feature race. Sammy Swindell has won the FRC the past three years in a row – is it possible he can become the only 4-time winner, or will someone dethrone him in 2012?

Tuesday, August 7th – 11th Annual Casey’s General Stores Ultimate Challenge (UC) presented by Searsboro Telephone Company, with the winner of the non-winged USAC Sprint Car feature race taking home a whopping $15,000! A complete program will be on tap for the USAC Sprint Cars; plus for the first time, the Hinchman Racewear Winged 305 Sprint Cars will join the night’s racing program and will run heats and a championship feature. Young Kyle Larson took home the UC honors in 2011, and fans can expect another top-flight group of the world’s best non-winged sprint drivers for 2012.

Please click www.OskyChallenges.com for more information about these two stellar events, including an event poster (link located in the navigation bar towards the top of the page). By clicking www.darinshort.com/osky.html you can view a seating chart for Southern Iowa Speedway.

We’d like to thank all of the fans, race teams and sponsors for their past and continued support of the Front Row Challenge and the Ultimate Challenge throughout the years – and we’re looking forward to spectacular edition of both events in 2012!

Sammy Swindell Three-Peats at Front Row Challenge!

8/8/2011

(Bill W) August 8, 2011 – Sammy Swindell won his third straight Front Row Challenge, but this one was the most lucrative, as the Germantown, Tennessee driver netted $10,000 for the All Star Circuit of Champions win. Swindell led the duration of the 25-lap feature in the Big Game Treestands #1 sprinter to claim the 15th running of the Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge over the 39 cars signed in on Monday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Swindell earned the right to start on the pole after winning the "King of the Hill" match race over fast-timer, and new track record holder, Brad Sweet. Sweet drove the Kasey Kahne Racing #9 to a lap of 15.084 seconds on the half-mile in qualifying to earn a Weld wheel. The lap broke Cale Conley's year old record of 15.222 seconds. Both drivers refused the "Front Row Challenge" and started up front in the feature.

Swindell shot out to an early lead in the main event with Sweet in tow. By lap five, Swindell and Sweet led Daryn Pittman, Cody Darrah and Dale Blaney. With nine laps in, Jason Solwold spun on the backstretch, bringing the first caution of the event. On the restart, the leaders remained the same, but 360 Nationals champion, Shane Stewart was on the move, and jumped from seventh to fifth when the green flag dropped.

Three laps later, Solwold brought about another caution to tighten the field once more. After the race resumed, Stewart moved by Darrah for fourth, and on lap 18, took third from Pittman. The lead pair approached heavy traffic at that point.

Swindell slowed behind the lapped cars of Ryan Anderson and Austen Wheatley, while Sweet took the opportunity to close in. Stewart was right there as well completing lap 21, when Anderson's left rear tire blew. At that point, the race was red-flagged for fuel. The final four laps saw Sammy cruise to victory.

Sweet maintained second and Stewart third. Fourth place was a tough place to be the last two laps, as first Darrah slowed, and then Pittman went up in smoke while taking the white flag. Sam Hafertepe Jr. claimed fourth ahead of hard-charger Donny Schatz. Blaney, Jonathan Allard, Mark Dobmeier, Kraig Kinser and Fred Rahmer rounded out the top ten.

Heat winners receiving a $400 gift certificate from All Pro Heads included Dobmeier, Swindell, Lance Dewease and David Gravel. Second place heat finishers took home a HRP front wing. Those drivers were Anderson, Allard, Seth Bergman and Solwold. Gravel also won a Winters rear-end for winning a foot race for first and second place heat finishers. Wayne Johnson tangled with another car in turn three during his heat and didn't return. He was not injured.

Paul McMahan was the B main winner, receiving a Schoenfeld Header. Dustin Daggett was awarded 1000 autograph cards from Driverwebsites.com, and Brady Bacon, Darrah, Allard, Bergman and Gravel received tear-offs compliments of Kear's Speed Shop. As the first non-qualifier, Bacon also picked up $100 from John Lemon.

(Bill W) April 5, 2011 – Remaining tickets for the Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge presented by Casey’s General Stores and the USAC Casey’s General Stores Ultimate Challenge presented by Don Long’s Searsboro Telephone Company are up for grabs Tuesday, April 5! You can purchase your tickets for both events by calling McTwo Promotions at 515-957-0020, Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Infield party passes will be $20 in advance, and $25 the day of the show.

The events are held at the ½ mile Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and along with the Nationals events at Knoxville are vital parts of Southern Iowa Sprintweek. “(Wife) Lori and I love the Challenges,” says McTwo Promotions’ Terry McCarl. “It is just an ideal fit for the fan, and that’s what we’re in this for. As always we’ll be taking care of fans young and old. We’re already lining up giveaways for our event. We are fans at heart, and that’s what the Challenges are all about!”

FRC

The 16th Annual Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge is one of the “must see” events on any race fans calendar, and will take place this year on Monday, August 8. The event will again be sanctioned by the All Stars, and you never know who will show up for the big money! Entertainment, as well as great racing is always a part of the “FRC”, and this year the winner’s share will again be $10,000! Of course, if a driver chooses to start at the tail of the feature and comes through the pack to win, they will pocket $50,000!

Sammy Swindell won last year’s edition for the second straight year ahead of Paul McMahan, David Gravel, Brad Sweet and Brooke Tatnell. You know the field will include the best in the sprint car business again this year! “The great thing about the Front Row Challenge is you never know who is going to tow in down that side street by the fairgrounds,” says McCarl. “As a fan, I think that is one of the most exciting things about this event. I had countless fans telling me the ‘King of the Hill’ race between Joey Saldana and Tyler Walker last year was worth the price of admission alone.”

UC

The best drivers in the “traditional” non-wing sprint car world battle it out in a “One night stand for 15 grand!” on Tuesday, August 9. The 10th Annual Casey’s Ultimate Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Company will again be sanctioned by USAC, ensuring that the best drivers in non-wing sprint car racing will be on hand. Last year’s event was won by Bud Kaeding, who had taken the USAC Knoxville Non-wing Nationals two nights before. Bryan Clauson, Levi Jones, Damion Gardner and Dave Darland trailed Bud to the finish line. The action is always intense from the first green thrown to the last checkered flag at the Ultimate Challenge!

“I can’t tell you how many people have told me that the Ultimate Challenge is their favorite race all season,” says McCarl. “It seems that several heats and qualifiers come down to the line every year too. As a fan, that just gets me excited thinking about it.”

Sammy Swindell Wins Second Straight FRC!

Sammy Swindell Wins Second Straight Front Row Challenge!

(Bill W) August 9, 2010 - Sammy Swindell drove to his second straight win in the 14th Annual Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge Monday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The veteran had a pass for the lead negated by a caution before he took advantage of leader Tyler Walker's blown left rear tire on the 22nd lap. The win in the Big Game Treestands #1s was worth $10,000 to the Germantown, Tennessee resident.

Vienna, West Virginia's Cale Conley set a new one lap track record on the 1/2 mile oval with a circuit of 15.222 seconds. Swindell, Fred Rahmer and Cap Henry enjoyed contingencies from HRP Wings, Keizer Wheels and Hubs, Sander Wheels and Butlerbuilt for heat race wins. The top eight qualifiers making it through their heat races participated in match races dubbed the "King of the Hill". In the finale, Walker and Joey Saldana raced side by side for two laps with Saldana nipping Walker at the line for the title. Jonathan Allard scored a set of headers from Schoenfeld for his win in the B main.

Saldana was given the choice to go to take the Front Row Challenge, but needed the pot sweetened to do so. McTwo Promotions, Terry McCarl, offered a $5,000 bonus if Saldana went to the back and finished in the top three. Saldana accepted the challenge and a packed house erupted.

Walker and Swindell started in row one, and it was Walker getting the jump at the outset, as he had done in beating Swindell in one of the Match Races. When Daryn Pittman came to a stop with three laps in the books, eyes were on Saldana, who had already worked his way forward to 11th.

Walker continued to lead the next eight laps, but Swindell shot by him on lap twelve. The move was called back when Jonathan Allard spun and the caution was thrown. Saldana had progressed to eighth at that point. On the restart, traffic in front of Saldana did not take off and he made contact with Conley and spun. Saldana took his car and the Front Row Challenge pitside.

Walker led Swindell, David Gravel, Paul McMahan and Brad Sweet back to green flag racing. McMahan moved by Gravel for third on the restart, as Walker continued to set the pace. On lap 21, Walker blew his left rear tire, handing the lead to Swindell. Sammy cruised from there, winning his second Front Row Challenge in a row. Bob Weuve received a KSE Power Steering Pump for winning hard-charger honors in the event.

“I can’t tell you how many people have told me that the Ultimate Challenge last year was the best race they had seen in years,” says McCarl. “It seems that several heats and qualifiers come down to the line every year too. Sammy Swindell Pockets $10,000 in 14th Annual Front Row Challenge!
by Bill Wright

August 10, 2009 (Oskaloosa, IA) - Sammy Swindell showed patience, and emerged victorious in the 14th Annual Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Monday. The win came after a rain delay lasting over three hours. Very few of the large throng of fans in attendance left, despite the lengthy delay in the All Star Circuit of Champions event.

Swindell earned the pole by virtue of a draw featuring the top eight qualifiers making it through their heats. The popular "King of the Hill" match races were scrapped when a brief, but heavy shower hit after the heat races. Both Swindell and Joey Saldana refused the $50,000 "Front Row Challenge", citing the heavy track conditions as a reason. Forty-five cars filled the pit area for the night's events.

The Germantown, Tennessee driver was aboard the Tom Rolfe #10, and led from start to finish in the 25-lapper. Joey Saldana gave the leader a brief challenge after a lap six restart for a stalled Daryn Pittman, but that was the only real threat to the veteran's winning run. Wayne Johnson had moved up into the top ten from his row seven starting position, but joined Pittman as a lap six retiree. The restart saw Swindell leading Saldana, Donny Schatz, Craig Dollansky and Cale Conley.

Just when the leaders approached lapped traffic on lap 16, Tyler Walker's mount went up in smoke, and Johnny Herrera stalled a lap later. The nine lap dash to the finish saw Swindell hold off all challengers. Dollansky shot under Schatz after the final restart to complete the podium finish, while Schatz, Lance Dewease, Conley, Danny Lasoski, Dale Blaney, Kraig Kinser and Tim Kaeding rounded out the top ten finishers.

Dewease broke Kasey Kahne's event record one-lap time in qualifying with a circuit of 15.231 seconds. Bronson Maeschen, Johnson, Jack Dover and Sam Hafertepe Jr. won 8-lap heats. All heat winners received a Butlerbuilt steering wheel and HRP nose wing kit for their efforts. Maeschen also received a top wing from HRP as he is a customer. Maeschen also won a new Winters' rear-end after topping the drivers finishing first and second in a foot race following the heat events.

O'Reilly All Stars Circuit of Champions Drivers are Talking
about the Front Row Challenge

Camargo, IL (8-7-09) - By Kelly Brown Public Relations Director - With just a few hours remaining the drivers of the All Star Circuit of Champions are ready to answer the test they will be put to during the Front Row Challenge. On Monday night August 10th the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions will be making their way to Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, IA where one lucky driver who gets the pole will have the opportunity to start from the back and win $50,000.

Out of the All Star regulars the driver that has the most starts at Southern Iowa Speedway ironically is Daron Clayton. He has two A-main starts at the track in non-wing competition. Veterans of the Front Row Challenge include Tim Shaffer and Greg Wilson who each have one A-main start to their credit. Last year Daryn Pittman who is currently 10th in the All Star point standings won the $10,000 dollar prize in a thrilling event that brought the crowd to their feet. When asked about this year's Front Row Challenge where is what the drivers of the All Star Circuit of Champions had to say:

Tim Shaffer

"Any time we get to go racing, I definitely look forward to it. I heard the track has changed a little bit so I am really excited to head over there and it sounds like the track will be pretty racy."

"It makes it exciting for everyone from the drivers to the team owners. He gives away products and it's a neat deal. I've seen him give away rear ends, front ends, steering boxes, wheels, it just amazing what he does."

"We're having a good year and hopefully we can make a great year out of it We have a great team with Brian Kemenah and the guys. That makes it fun again."

Greg Wilson

"We're really looking forward to it, especially with the All Stars being a part of it this year. Terry (McCarl) and the guys out there do an awesome job promoting that event. It's always fun to go out there and run."

"If you can get unloaded and get rolling from the get-go that usually means a pretty good week barring no problems. It's as tough as it gets right now. This is the busiest time of the year and hopefully it will be good for us."

Ryan Bunton

"We're really looking forward to that track. This year we have really started liking the half-miles (tracks). When we got into this, I think I had only run two half-miles in my entire life. They were a little bit of a scary thing at first, but we are getting used to them. We're really looking forward to Monday night and it should be a very well run show."

"It's one of the hard things. There is nothing like going into a race with 40 or 50 of the greatest cars and driver, like at Pevely the other night. It's tough and humbling as well, but I think it will be worth it in the end."

Daron Clayton

"It's a real cool race track and I'm really looking forward to getting back there with the wing on."

"It was a rough patch at the start, but I've gotten past having the wing on and used to it. We've come a long way and have done some things different. We've been pretty good so now it's a factor that is out of our way."

"That's the biggest thing and that?s what hurt us at the beginning of the year missing races. It was killing me not getting laps on the track. Now we are making shows and making lots of laps and getting better and better all the time."

David Gravel

"It's a pretty famous track and I'm really looking forward to going over there."

"This past week during the Thunder in the Plains being on the road for about a month racing against a lot of really good guys taught us a lot. It was fun and I'm always learning."

"I've seen a big improvement in myself in the last few weeks, getting better and better. At Huset?s (Speedway) we were fast both nights. I?m getting more confident and we are getting things together."

Brandon Wimmer

"I'm really looking forward to it. We have been going pretty good here lately in the Rick Ferkel (No) 0 car. It seems like every race we get better and better. We just finished up the Thunder in the Plains with the All Stars and did really well there and are really looking forward to Oskaloosa."

"Having been on the road helps you adjust to tracks really quick. You just watch some of the good guys that are running there and see what lines they are running and kind of go from there. That is something my Grandpa told me that if you don't run against the best you won't get better and we are looking forward to Oskaloosa Monday."

Daryn Pittman

"It's one that we tried to win for a lot of years and led a lot of laps and should have won two years prior in a row and finally got it done last year. He's putting up more money this year and anytime that promoters want to put up more for 410 winged sprint cars is a great thing."

?"It is nice to go and have a good time. Seeing the fans enjoy themselves and be at a completely different atmosphere than we are used to at a race track. You definitely have to applaud his ingenuity on the promoter?s side and it's a good time for the fans. It definitely spills over to the race track."
